During the 1980s, in South Korea's Gwangju period, martial law imposed by Director Jun had profound effects. Hanel couldn't attend school for months due to the violence, and communication with her best friend ceased as phone lines were severed. Hanel's family was deeply involved because her brother joined the militia against the general. Fast forward to 2020, and Hanel, now a nurse in Kirkland, Washington, experienced a life-altering incident after work. She managed to call 911 before losing consciousness. If you're intrigued by Hannah's life journey and career, this book offers a revealing account.

I appreciate how this book delves into intricate medical details, such as IV lines connected to the jugular vein and the experiences of patients in intensive care units. It explores drugs like Actemra and their applications, enriching my pharmacology knowledge. Additionally, it introduced me to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), expanding my understanding of medical procedures. The book vividly portrays the gratification that healthcare workers, especially nurses, derive when unstable patients regain consciousness and recover. I like the beautiful relationship between Autumn and Hanel, and I like how it doesn't hesitate to show the ugly side of working abroad as a foreigner.

This book is exceptionally well-edited, devoid of errors, and significantly contributed to my comprehension of medicine and nursing. It provides an intricate glimpse into the lives of nurses and the contrasting work environments in Saudi Arabia and the United States. I wouldn't hesitate to revisit its pages, given its informative and enlightening content. There's nothing negative about this book, and I dislike nothing about it. I rate it a five out of five stars.

I wholeheartedly recommend American Dream? by Jeoung Lee to individuals in the healthcare sector and those aspiring to be nurses. It offers comprehensive insights into hospital operations and patient care while also touching upon the historical backdrop of South Korea in the 1980s.
