Review of Doctoroo & the Case of the Hacking Hippo

Doctoroo & the Case of the Happy Hippo, by Dr. Rachel Wellner, is a story about Dr. Marsha Roo and her friends. They receive an invitation to the Sydney Opera House to attend the famous Hilda Hippo’s concert, where she develops a terrible cough while performing. Thus causing Dr. Marsha Roo to transform into Doctoroo, the medical detective. Doctoroo and her friends spring into detective mode to seek out the culprit that has caused Hilda Hippo to become sick. Did it come from something she ate? Somewhere she’s been? Someone she’s touched? Learn the answers to those questions and others as you join her and her friends at the Sydney Opera House in this beautiful book.
I enjoyed the fun, lovable characters as well as the beautiful and bold illustrations. I was also intrigued by the informational aspects this book had to offer. You have the opportunity to learn tidbits of information about the Sydney Opera House, mold, good germs and bad germs, how germs spread and how to destroy germs. There is also a song included that can be used as a tool to teach children how long to wash their hands.
The book was definitely professionally edited, as I did not find any errors. Furthermore, I did not find anything negative at all in this book.
Because of the beautiful illustrations, informative text, fun storyline, and professional quality, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I would recommend this book to parents, teachers, children, families, dentist offices and doctor’s offices. This book will serve as an invaluable tool in reducing the spread of germs and viruses in a fun and exciting way. As a preschool teacher, I will be getting this book to have in our classroom and possibly create a whole lesson plan about spreading germs based on this story. I hope you and the children in your life enjoy this book as much as I did. I also hope it helps them discover a little bit more about how to keep themselves safe from germs.
