Review of Niching Up

[Following is a volunteer review of "Niching Up" by Chris Dreyer.]
This book is a great approach, everyone who wants to understand what work’s best for their business should go give it a read. In this book, Chris Dreyer takes through his journey from being a basketball coach to managing digital presence for personal injury attorneys.
There is a strong focus on the power of niching which I feel broadly works on the lines of Simon Sinek’s “Golden Circle” approach addressing the “Why, How and What!”. The author clearly showcases the pros and cons of niching and the areas where-in there is a direct application for the same. There is enough detailing from creating awareness to gaining expertise to making the process more efficient thereby making yourself competitive and an outlier amongst the audience. The book reads a sentence, “When you do something that no one else is doing you stand out”, reading this line created enough curiosity to understand the concept behind it.
Chris has clearly outlined the drawbacks of the niching as well. In transparent manner, he has explained that there are two sides to looking at a half-filled glass, either it is half empty or it is half full. He condemns how status is associated with almost every decision in the American society, right from the kind of clothes you wear to the car you drive.
In an assertive tone which is simple to understand, right from a five-year-old kid to an old person sitting in the park, this book is for everyone. There were a few examples which will connect only with a niche audience like the one from an early 90s TV show. May be a lot of people might not connect with it. Similarly, there was a point where I felt that the context could be a little precise. However, the flow of the book was very smooth, I enjoyed reading the book and will suggest every person planning to start or scale-up the business to grab a copy today.
