Set in Piure, the plot revolves around the protagonist Adam raised in the small town of California. Adam harboured a deep resentment towards the townsfolk, whom he referred to as animals. His infatuation with his mother, Jo, was evident, as he despised his father. From the beginning of the story, Adam found himself in an arduous maze, which led to a range of distorted paroxysms. It was a challenging journey for Adam, but he persevered and proved to be a resilient character.

It's strange how Adam seems to harbour a deep-seated animosity towards most people, except for Jo. The incident involving Terry highlights the power that this unknown force has over Adam, twisting his thoughts into those of darkness and wickedness.

It is almost absurd how much Adam desires Carly. His tumultuous experiences with her leave him feeling frustrated and confused. Carly, a new student at Keetering High School from Minnesota, is of Anglo-Russian descent and seems to be hiding something from everyone. Despite this, their magnetic connection keeps them close, making it impossible for them to stay apart.

After an unforgivable incident with his parents, ambivalent of his abilities, Adam desperately tries to know his truth. In his journey to find his identity, he discovers eye-opening truths and is met with the challenging rivalry between the Descendants and the Ikshas. Her love has inspired change in him and he is determined to do better. It's not an easy journey, but Adam is determined to see it through

The writer has beautifully unravelled the plot and introduced the lovers' chemistry. Their paths are intertwined by the most unexpected circumstances. Calix Leigh-Reign has done a fantastic job in crafting the character of Adam and bringing him to life. His development throughout the story is both believable and captivating, making him a true success.

I will give the book a 5 out of 5. The book has left me with an insatiable desire to read the entire series. The relationship between a mother and daughter is truly a beautiful thing, and this story captures it perfectly. It's filled with emotion, passion, and suspense - a true thriller.
