Review of The Girl Who Knew Da Vinci

[Following is a volunteer review of "The Girl Who Knew Da Vinci" by Belle Ami.]
The Girl Who Knew DaVinci takes the reader on a journey through time, following the love stories of three couples. What do these couples have in common? How can six people from different parts of the world and different eras be connected? These questions are all answered when you finish the book. This well-written book by Ami Belle is a suspenseful story that leads you into the world of art history. Angela Renatus is working at an art museum when she begins having strange dreams involving Leonardo DaVinci. These dreams make no sense to her as they seem to deal with a painting that does not even exist. What can this mean? The perplexing dream is just the beginning for Angela. Alex Caine is an art detective hired to locate a painting that does not seem to exist. Could it be the same painting? Could it really exist? And if it does, where could it be? What is the connection to Angela? What does this mean for the art world?
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Combining a love story, a mystery, history and a look into the art world was fascinating! The author’s ability to make clear which characters’ lives we were looking at was very well done through not only dates listed at the beginning of a chapter, but also by the use of italics if it’s taking place during a chapter. Belle’s writing truly enables you to “see” where you are, whether it be in Rome or Paris or a museum. The only thing I found hard to read was when the characters were speaking in Italian. Sometimes the English version was included in the writing, but not always.
Overall, I would give this book a rating of 4 out of 5. Again, the only issue I had with it was the use of Italian not always being translated, though the reader can make out what is being said. This is the first book in the Out of Time Thriller Series and I look forward to reading more of them.
