Thriving in the Storm was a book about overcoming adversity, striving to reach personal goals and becoming a more positive person. It was honestly one of the best self-help books that I have read. The personal stories that were told and how adversity had been overcome by the author was relatable. The book had a positive vibe that was easy to follow and understand. The exercises within the book made the reader feel as though they were part of their own journey and could use the examples, strengths and honesty of the author to help them.

The author described his childhood and how that impacted the man he grew up to be. He described his motivations to succeed in everything that he set his mind to such as marathons, ironman and being successful in his business. The author dived into his setbacks which to the ordinary person might have made them quit, however he excelled and found the blessing through it all.

I was pleased with how the author created multiple lists throughout the book to focus on aspects that were important such as the five steps to take when learning from other people or what to do to harden your mindset. Reading the lists that were short and to the point was beneficial and I didn’t have to read through fluff to get the picture the author was creating. I was pleasantly surprised by how much the author stressed the importance of having a positive mindset for everything in life. It was stressed throughout the book to look for the blessing in the midst of the storm and that a person has three choices when the storm hits – to either give up and become a victim, do what you can to survive or learn to thrive in the storm.

The only criticism that I have of the book is the idea that a person needs a coach to help them through their journey. The author used multiple coaches throughout his life, he had the means and time to work with them which helped him succeed. That is not the case for everyone, but they are still capable of reaching success. There were some errors, but they did not hinder the reading experience. For these reasons I would give the book a 4 out of 5 stars. I wish the author would have been less coach heavy and more you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

I would recommend this book to individuals that are wanting to become a happier person. Those that want less negativity in their lives and those that want to read about overcoming adversity. I took a lot away from this book and I know that other people would as well.
