[Following is a volunteer review of "E M P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer.]
In E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer, newlyweds embark on a dangerous adventure to save their country, testing their love and resilience. Tom and Kelly Turbulo embark on their long-awaited honeymoon in a world devastated by an electromagnetic pulse catastrophe as they crave a break from their busy lives. They had no idea that their journey would develop into a terrifying quest in which danger awaited at every junction and their relationship would be tested.
As they explored the tranquil landscapes of Honduras, Kelly's innocent curiosity led her to stumble upon a secret lab concealed within a seemingly harmless piggy toy shop. The veil of tranquility was torn apart, revealing a sinister plot threatening North America's very fabric. Their honeymoon took an exhilarating turn as they found themselves entangled in a dangerous situation. Together with Kelly's brother, Senator Mike McBride, and with the assistance of a network of intelligence operatives, they took action to save their country from terrorist attacks. Would they be able to stop the terrorists' schemes? Could they overcome the challenges and prevent the impending destruction of their beloved country? The tension was increased, and I was riveted by these questions that hung in the air with unknown answers.
I appreciate the novel's fast-paced and immersive writing style, as it keeps me engaged from start to finish. The author's ability to seamlessly blend an intense survival narrative with insightful themes, such as the realistic portrayal of technological collapse, adds depth and authenticity to the story. I love how the expertly maintained tension and suspense throughout the narrative keep me guessing and highly invested. The exploration of human nature in extreme circumstances and the engaging blend of genres, including survival, romance, and action, make this novel a captivating and diverse reading experience.
But the shallowness of the character development is the only thing I like least about this novel. While I was engrossed in Kelly and Tom's difficult path as the main protagonists, I found myself wanting more nuanced insights into their lives. Additionally, the supporting characters also disappointed me. If the author had gone into more detail about the characters' complex personalities, it would have improved my reading experience and given me a deeper chance to empathize with them.
Dorothy May Mercer's novel indeed had me captivated. The fast-paced storytelling and immersive plot kept me thoroughly engaged. However, the aspect I liked least about the story led me to deduct a star from my rating. I give the novel a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. Also, I must commend the exceptional editing of this novel, as I didn't come across any errors while reading. I recommend this novel to readers who appreciate thrilling and action-packed narratives.
