[Following is a volunteer review of "The Commander" by Dan E. Hendrickson.]
The Commander by Dan E Hendrickson is an action packed novel for anyone who likes stories about the military. This is the book for you. Jacob Edwards is a captain in the Coast Guard and a family man and a secret agent that reports directly to the president of the United states of America. You will see how he juggles being a family man with a nine year old daughter that he adores. While doing his Coast Guard duties and all the while keeping his true mission a secret. Can he do it all and save everyone?
The commander is written by Dan E Hendrickson. It is for young adults to middle aged adults or anyone who served in the Coast Guard or military. The author really captures what it's like to be in the Coast Guard and to have a top secret mission on top of is really intriguing and thrilling at the same time. I'm in my thirties and I don't know much about the Coast Guard but it was still super easy for me to follow and know what was going on.
I didn't notice any significant low points in the book. The author really captures and transitions between the three situations really smoothly. It wasn't hard for me to follow at all. The main character Captain Jacob Edwards does a good job of judging his family and his Coast Guard duties but the hardest part he has to deal with is the secret agent because only a few people can know about it.
I rate this book a four out of five stars for being a well edited book. I didn't notice any spelling errors. The only thing I would have liked to have seen was more information on the boat at the end about if any of the children or teachers were hurt or okay.
I recommend this book for 18 to 35 year olds. They will have the best connection with the book. Especially if they are considering a career in the Coast Guard or military.
