[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an intriguing and well-written fantasy novel that takes place in a fictional world. The story is set in the kingdom of Voulhire, a prosperous land with advanced technology and magical abilities. However, Voulhire is under constant threat from various enemies, including a nomadic army and a powerful mage who seeks dominion over the spirit world. The plot revolves around the challenges faced by Voulhire's people and their struggle to survive against these forces. The book is the first in a series and introduces the reader to a diverse range of characters, each with their unique perspectives, motivations, and abilities.
The positive aspects of this book are many. The world-building is outstanding, with detailed descriptions of various locations and cultures that make the reader feel as though they are truly immersed in the story. The characters are complex and well-developed, with their personalities and motivations gradually revealed throughout the book. Tysz's writing style is engaging and easy to follow, making the story accessible to readers of all ages. The plot is well-paced, with enough action, intrigue, and suspense to keep the reader engaged throughout the story. The book's ending sets the stage for the next book in the series, leaving the reader eager to continue the story.
I searched for negative aspects of the book but found none that detracted from the overall reading experience. The editing was excellent, with no noticeable errors or inconsistencies. The story flowed smoothly, and the characters were well-defined, making it easy to follow their individual journeys.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The book is exceptionally well-written, and the pacing is perfect. It's a thrilling and unpredictable story that keeps the reader hooked until the end. The characters are memorable, and their struggles are relatable, making the reader invested in their journey. The world-building is impressive, and the author's attention to detail and skillful writing make for a captivating read.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy novels. The book will appeal to readers who enjoy magic, political intrigue, and complex characters. However, due to the presence of foul language and violence, it may not be suitable for younger audiences, especially those under sixteen. This is an excellent start to what promises to be a compelling series, and I look forward to reading the subsequent novels.
