[Following is a volunteer review of "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.]
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah wrote the memoir A Dream For Peace. From a young age, Ghoulem was enthralled by science. He was a brilliant child, and his mother adored him. His father had multiple wives, so he had stepsiblings who disliked him. After his father died, his stepbrothers became a hindrance to his education. Ghoulem had always been interested in science, but his stepbrothers tried to convince him that he would be a better teacher than a doctor. Fortunately for Ghoulem, his mother supported him.
He obtained a scholarship to study his desired course after putting in a lot of effort. Even before he left his hometown in Algeria, Ghoulem had experienced racism firsthand as a victim. After arriving at the University of Lyon, Ghoulem discovers that racism was not only prevalent at home, but was also prevalent in the University too. But he refused to be silenced. To learn more about Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's fight for freedom and success, read A Dream For Peace.
This book's writing style appeals to me. Dr. Berrah appeared to be physically speaking to the readers. He wrote the book in the same manner in which he would have told the story. This added to the book's intrigue and engagement. This book has taught me a lot about Algeria and France. Dr. Berrah's story taught me a lot of things. He faced numerous obstacles to his success, but he refused to give up. This book had a lot of thoughts about determination. When one sets his mind to something, hard work will always pay off in the end. I found no mistakes while reading this book. It was flawlessly edited. This book also taught me the value of friendship.
I kept wondering if Dr. Ghoulem would have been a better politician than a scientist. I cannot fault the author for this because this was a true story and not a work of fiction. This book was quite lengthy. It took a lot of willpower to finish it. I don't like how Dr. Ghoulem's love life turned out.
This was a good book for me. It provided very good lessons as well as historical knowledge. I wished the book was shorter or divided into volumes. I believe it is appropriate to give this book four out of five stars. This book taught both personality and educational lessons.
This book is recommended for both anti-racists and those who are indifferent to racism. Looking at racism through the eyes of the victims reveals that it is a very wrong act.
