[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a great novel. It discusses various characters, and the protagonist of this book is a man named Galen Bray, and the book takes the reader along on Galen's adventure on his way to an amazing town called Voulhire. This town was bright, with a fascinating landscape, well-structured houses, and a welcoming environment far superior to the land he was leaving, which he had left due to a war between princes. He was on his way to meet his uncle, Galem Onita, but he didn't get the chance because he died. Read this novel to find out how Galen ended up in this town and how mysteries and dark secrets will be revealed.
The author's writing style and the distinctive and diverse names given to each character are what I liked most about the novel. Galen's ability to find himself in Voulhire impressed me. You'll be intrigued by some sections of this book and eager to learn more. For instance, a potential scenario made the residents of Hillport uneasy. It was about Meldorath, a strong mage and chief magistrate who subsequently proclaimed himself Lord of Hillport after traveling to Hillport to contest a governmental position. He was ousted, fired, and expelled from Hillport in some fashion. Is he alive or dead? This question put the people of Hillport in doubt, including their newly assigned Lord Eldus. Also, we, the readers, were eager to find out if he was truly dead or alive. This caught my attention, and you will be curious to know what happens next.
Only the author's method of switching from one story to the next and the fact that most of the characters didn't fit in were the two things I found objectionable about this book. Although it is a little confusing because their part in the novel has nothing to do with it, I was able to finish reading it because of a few scenes that grabbed my attention.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. The writer switches from one plot to another, and to me, it’s not impressive that he should have done better. I deduct 1 star because of this.
I would recommend this book to adults who enjoy reading science fiction novels. Also, if you enjoy reading books about power, technology, and magic, this will be a good fit for you, and you will enjoy it.
