[Following is a volunteer review of "Apollo's Raven" by Linnea Tanner.]
Apollos Raven, by Linnea Tanner Is the first book of The Curse of Clansman and Kings series. We meet Catrin, who is the youngest daughter of King Amren. She is spending time with her raven while her sister is spending time with her boyfriend. They all get back to the village to find that a Roman senator and his son Marcellus are there to talk to the king. Conversations turn bad when the king finds out that the senator is supporting someone he banished from his kingdom. The king's eldest daughter agrees to go with the senator as a prisoner while the senator’s son stays and is a prisoner to the king. Catrin and Marcellus become close and spend a lot of time together. The king goes to meet with the senator to try and negotiate a peaceful solution. While he’s gone Catrin finds herself in trouble. Will the Romans invade Britannia? Does Catrin become who she’s meant to be? Find out the answers to these questions and more by reading this novel.
I enjoyed this novel tremendously. I liked the historical aspect of modern women’s rights. The fact that women are free and can own land is astounding. There aren’t many novels out there that have a strong female lead that is also vulnerable at times. Also, the character developments are outstanding, one minute you like a character the next you don’t then you like them again. I would not only read this novel again, but I would recommend it to everyone.
I didn’t like the ending of this novel. I know it’s the first book of the series, but it just felt like it left us wanting more. You never find out what happens to the main characters. I wanted a happy ending. I wanted him to stay with her and rule. Instead, we got major cliffhangers. That was the only thing I didn’t like.
I give this novel a 5 out of 5. It was beautifully written and professionally edited with only one grammatical error, that I found. I believe this author has found her style of writing and is extremely good at it. I would like to read the rest of this series soon.
This novel is well-suited for adults and young adults. In my opinion, men and women would both enjoy this novel. With romance and Conflict, who wouldn’t love it?
