[Following is a volunteer review of "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.]
A Dream for Peace is a memoir written by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah based on his personal experiences. The book documents his amazing life, going through his struggles as well as his triumphs. He was born in Algeria when it was still under French colonial rule. His mother encouraged him to work hard in school, leading him to win a scholarship to attend the university of his choice. He became part of an elite group of Africans who traveled abroad to study in France. This is just the first of his many accomplishments.
This is just one of the many endeavors that the author undertook. His journey is one filled with outstanding accomplishments as well as losses. He was passionate and driven for whatever he did and did not lose hope or give up even when the colonial government threatened him. He was a great leader for the people who looked up to him. He was always on the front lines of the anti-colonialist struggle. He did this physically and academically by pursuing education up to the highest levels to help his people back home.
The memoir is written with in-depth recollections of events and conversations. The author is very forthcoming with his life and describes his career and personal pursuits. He does not shy away from expressing his love for his wife and their life together. Their love was a beautiful thing to read about amid all the chaos that was going on around him. I liked that the author gave a detailed account of his life, and it was commendable that the author could recall this much in-depth information about his life.
The book uses easy-to-understand language that helps readers keep up with the story. I also liked that the book contained pictures, which helped with the flow of the story. The images allowed my imagination to envision life when Dr. Berrah was most active. His story is inspiring to anyone who reads it, and it often left me wondering how one person could achieve all this. The book gave great insights into different situations, like what life looked like for Algerians during the colonial period and the contribution of university students in the fight for independence. Even though they were undermined, their efforts contributed to this fight and led the author to become the great man he is. Overall, it was a good book, and I did not find anything I disliked about it.
I rate this book five out of five stars as I did not find any grammatical mistakes, and the book seems to be exceptionally well edited. I also enjoyed reading about Dr Berrah’s life and recommend this book to anyone looking for an inspiring figure to read about.
