Impact Zone by B.D. Roy is a fun story including family drama that many of us can relate to, new love and friendship, and an added twist with the main characters being outsiders in a new town and surfing community.

I completely enjoyed this book. It hooked me right away and I wanted to keep reading. The relationship between the brothers was very real and sweet. I connected to this story instantly because I was a child of the 80’s and had parents who divorced when I was in college. The references to the music of the past was fun to think about.

I’ve never surfed so I didn’t understand all of the surf lingo, but found the definitions in the back of the book. I thought that the author described the relationship between the brother, James, Jack, and Kai well, but I believe that the language between them could have been a little stronger.

I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars because it was a very easy read that drew me in quickly. The family relationships were strong despite the turmoil they were going through and the characters felt very real.

Impact Zone is recommended for young adults and teens, especially those who are going through or have gone through divorce in the family.
