Review of Reconfigurement

[Following is a volunteer review of "Reconfigurement" by E. Alan Fleischauer.]
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a book on financial literacy, through which the author endeavours to pass on the knowledge he acquired during the many years he has worked as a financial advisor. Any reader interested in furthering their knowledge in the matters of investing, preparing for retirement and insurance could benefit from this book, since E. Alan Fleischauer is a useful source of financial knowledge. The author touches on various types of stocks, bonds, 401Ks, ROTH IRAs, various types of insurance, wills etc. E. Alan Fleischauer bases his book on the fact that the recent generations have lived and will live longer than their ancestors due to better health care and a changed lifestyle. Due to this, every person must prepare financially for spending more years in retirement than his or her predecessors.
There are two positive aspects I found in Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer. One is that E. Alan Fleischauer goes into great detail in explaining various types of investment opportunities and how to best prepare for retirement and one gets the impression that the author knows what he is talking about. The second one is that the author tries to keep the readers attention through jokes and anecdotes. Although some are less funny that the others, they take the edge off the usually- not- that- interesting subject matter.
There are also two negative aspects of this book. The first one is that is USA-market-specific. Since I live in Europe, it was educational for me to read this book, but not as useful as I´d hoped.
For example, most retirement options the USA has are not available in Europe and vice versa, and an individual living in Europe cannot get that much use from such advice.
The second one is that the book caters mostly to older individuals, i.e. people in their 50s, that are just about to retire.
Since I am not in that age group, I have felt a little left out as a reader at times.
I would rate this book 4 out of 5, since it is well edited, one notices how much thought and how much work was put into publishing it and it was a good read. I would also state, that the positive aspects of the book outweigh the negative for me.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking to better their financial know-how, but especially if the reader lives in the USA. I would also recommend this book to anyone who perhaps doesn´t live in the USA, but is researching the retirement system in the USA or possibilities for investing.
