[Following is a volunteer review of "Cynthia and Dan" by Dorothy May Mercer.]
Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War, written by Dorothy May Mercer, is a fictional book about online cyber war. Cynthia is Senator McBride's chief of security, and she makes sure that his office stays secure and confidential. She is dating Sergeant Dan Mclntyre, and when she is on her way, she is stuck in a traffic jam only to realize that a drone that landed in front of the White House caused the traffic jam. During the situation, she meets a guy named Sky and thinks of dating him. Everyone thinks it was an innocent mistake, but not Cynthia. Cynthia tries to find out why the drone landed in front of the White House while working with her brother, Glenn. In their team, they hire two college computer experts who design a piece of equipment that can monitor and intercept terrorists' communication. Will they destroy and stop terror attacks by monitoring and intercepting terrorist communication? Read this book and find out.
What I liked most was the cyber war. The part where the young college computer experts designed a piece of equipment to monitor and intercept terrorist communication was genius. It kept the reader attentive and eager to know what happened after they designed the piece of equipment since it was like watching a movie. I also liked the use of dialogue for conversations between characters since it made the story lively even though it was fiction. It also made the characters engaging to the reader.
What I disliked most was the romance part of the novel. The romance part of the novel was inappropriate, given the maturity and storyline of the book. The author portrays Cynthia as an intelligent character who discovers that the drone landing in front of the White House was a terror attack, but it takes her a few minutes to like a guy she just met and end up having sex with him. She should have been resistant, given she was chief of security for the senator.
I rate Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War by Dorothy May Mercer three out of four stars. The book was explicitly edited; hence, I found no errors. It had several positive aspects, but there were negative aspects that were enough to deduct a star since they affected the taste of the story, hence, the rating.
I recommend this book to lovers of cyberwar novels. They will not be disappointed once they read this book since it describes the cyber war that Cynthia and her brother, Glenn, waged against terrorists. The readers should not be offended by mildly erotic scenes since the book contains them.
