[Following is a volunteer review of "Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula" by R.F. Kristi.]
When Missy accepts an invitation to be a judge and to present her delicious cheese in a competition organized by a French cookery school in Korea, she takes along her furry friends, Inca and Company, a detective agency. Inca is a sassy Siberian cat detective leader and regards herself as snoopy by nature. While in Korea, they had fun, adventure, sightseeing, and befriended a friendly dog named Baram. Government laws and restrictions make these cute kitties really sad, but their courage and resilience are the driving forces that make them risk it all to help their friends reunite.
Cat Detective on the Korean Peninsula written by R.F Kristi. This is a short and sweet bedtime story for toddlers and school-going children. The book begins with a family tree describing each cat's features and personality, such as eye color, coat, height, and weight. As you read the book, you will also see heart-warming and cute images of each pet on a mission doing detective work. Kristi follows these kitties and a dog named Terrance on their wonderful adventure to Korea, where they show courage, bravery, and love for each other.
The illustrations by Jorge Valle are wonderful; they highlight and explain the story better and make the book enjoyable and fun for children who cannot read. The book is informative about the history, conflict, culture, and visa laws between North and South Korea. The combination of Kristis' creativity, humor, and the language used makes the book unique and fun for children.
The Koreans' pet names sounded very similar, causing confusion. I had to go back to the previous chapter to remind myself.
The book is exciting and entertaining, with good plot and character development. I did not come across any grammar or spelling errors, except for two typing errors, but it didn't interfere with my enjoyment. It made sense, so I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
Without a doubt, this book is suitable for children between 2 and 7 years old. I would strongly advise parents to consider it for a bedtime story.
