Review of A Dream For Peace

[Following is a volunteer review of "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.]
A Dream for Peace, Ghoulem Berrah's memoir, narrates his life from his origin in Algeria and his extraordinary bond with his mother to his quest toward becoming a medical student. How he transformed from a freedom fighter pushing for Algeria's independence to a notable historical figure and a role model for diplomats. In addition, there are scientific triumphs, heartbreaking moments, and love. Despite the fact that he worked in medicine, there were several learning curves, such as mastering the techniques of a veterinarian to determine whether or not fish could be sold and aiding cows with ear infections. There was a lot of traveling and passing through during the course of this memoir. You must keep track of the various locations, people, and missions, but Dr. Ghoulem's narrative is written with such passion and a desire to effect change that you are unable to stop living through it.
I learned a lot about the history covered in this memoir as I didn't know much about it before. There were several conflicts, as well as instances of racism, unfairness, and general wrongdoing. Although I don't believe every choice made in this book was the right one, they were all made for the right reasons and may have seemed to be the only option at the time. The first scientific theory about the Reverse Transcriptase Enzyme, which is a factor in enabling RNA viruses to generate specific types of cancer, is included in this book along with heartache and politics. This memoir's events are all superbly described, and the true stories are compelling.
The book's images and the old, yellowed pages from which the hypotheses were drawn were both very appealing to me. His origin is emphasized by the use of foreign phrases, and I appreciated that their definitions were provided in small print at the bottom of the pages. Despite the fact that this is a memoir, the story was told in a way that made it easy to follow; it merely had a lengthy introduction. The book's length bothered me, but it is otherwise a wonderfully empathetic tale with many unexpected turns.
I rate Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's book A Dream for Peace a score of 4 out of 4 stars. I didn't see any errors while reading, and I was astonished to find no profanity—which is generally always present in anything dealing with politics and power. I had fun reading, albeit I don't know much about politics, as I've already indicated. Everything was clearly described by Dr. Ghoulem in an easy-to-follow manner.
To those who enjoy politics, culture, and history, I would recommend this book. This memoir can empower anyone who cares. In spite of all the dreadful things that occurred and conspired against Dr. Ghoulem, he persisted and had faith that he would make a difference, and he did! Reading this makes you feel as though you can also make a difference.
