Review of A Dream For Peace

[Following is a volunteer review of "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.]
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was born and raised in a small town known as Aïn Beïda in Algeria. His mother, Lalla Zebida, valued education, and she trained him on her own. She also supported him to further his education when it was time. The young author traveled to France to pursue his dreams of becoming a medical doctor, then he became a political activist and joined in fighting for the independence of Algeria. During the process, he met his first wife, Antoinette, who was also an activist like him. However, they were jailed as a result of their fight against colonialism and racism. Soon, they were released, the author joined the Algerian war, and Antoinette stayed in Morocco.
A Dream For Peace is an autobiography, and it explores the author's diplomatic experiences in politics and the life he faced as an African and Arab. The book was wonderfully written and detailed. I liked the fact that the author explicitly wrote about the history of the Algerians and how they got their independence from the French colonizers. I also liked that Berrah documented his transition from science to law. It was interesting to see him still return to science.
I admired his self-determination and his prowess to stand and fight for what he believed in. I also admired his wife, Antoinette, for her bravery. I liked that he was audacious when he criticized the discrimination and racism faced by Africans in Europe. I liked that Berrah exhibited a good character worthy of emulation. From the title of this book, I got to understand that the author wrote this book because he visualized a country where there would be peace for the citizens, freedom for the people, and no discrimination. I think this book should be used to teach history in African schools. In addition, I liked the inspirational quotes and the insightful titles in this book.
There were no negative aspects of this book. I loved and enjoyed every part of it. It was a captivating autobiography. The book was exceptionally edited; I encountered no grammatical errors while reading the book. It is my pleasure to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is an insightful and historical memoir that any person can relate to.
I recommend this book to people, especially Africans, that would love to know the truth about the colonization of Algeria and how Algeria got her independence. I also recommend that this book should be read in schools because of its unbiased historical content.
