[Following is a volunteer review of "Sip Lake" by joseph basara.]
Sip lake is a comedy and romantic book by Joe Basara. The protagonist, Owen Cloud, a man in his late twenties who has move to a new town to start a life and a new job, an orderly at the hospital, where he finds new friends and maybe something more...?
It´s the 70s and Owen is new in town living in a cottage owned by Christine´s parents. Christine is married to Harry who´s one of the dearest friends that Owen has and Harry is the one that got Owen a job as an orderly at the hospital where he begins to meet new people, some of them more interesting that others, some of them caughting Owen´s attention. While the time pass he starts wondering if he should be dating someone by now because he´s not getting any younger. He is really introvert, a little bit shy and insecure; he would be able to date someone? Someone who he can start a family? Despite his flaws? Maybe that woman would be that lady with short and dark hair that he meet his first day, or maybe Nikki, his other coworker who also became his friend, or even maybe sweet Marianne, who seems to feel something for him but he may not want her?
This book was nice to read, a good story. Since the protagonist was Owen it was nice to read the point of view of a man, i believe that when a point of view is from a guy, it drags more attention, maybe is because we always wonder what can mens think about, how they can realize that are falling in love, how are they gonna find a solution to a trouble. Also i like that it shows a side of him more vulnerable and insecure that most of people have, it is normal, and is nice when we read about it because it makes us feel that is stuff that happens to everybody and we are not gonna feel like that forever. And lastly it was really interesting how he was trying to have someone by his side, it took me by surprise a little things that i wasn´t expecting but turn out that to be exactly what it needed to happen.
I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars it was a good book but not as quite good, it needed a little more of history at some parts, more emotion, but the reading was a pleasing and i didn´t find errors so the editing was also good.
I would recommend it to book lovers that want something nice to read on a cloudy afternoon, someone that like cute genre.
