Kalayla. by Jeannie Nicholas is a book that revolves around the character of Kalayla, an eleven-year-old strong and mature girl who thinks that she knows everything, raised by her mother in her 30s, Maureen. Maureen was rejected by her family because she chose to love a black man, Jamal, who later died and left her a widow at a very young age, she later finds a new lover, Rico. She was a noblewoman making sure her daughter was having a good life. Kalayla and her mother live in the building owned by Lena, a seventy-two-year-old widow with three boys trying to amend and transform her past, of being a bad mother to her sons, by guiding kalayla in the correct direction of life.

Is this life fair? Despite all the hardship, Maureen had gone throw, with being disowned because of her choice of love, she had to go throw with the trauma of his death while having to raise the child by herself, Maureen was my favorite character in this book as this relates to this present day life women go throw having to raise children single-handedly. I appreciate the way the author brings the reader’s mind to a more realistic and imaginable world. There are many moral lessons learned from this book; forgiveness, courage, and most importantly, I have personally learned that the past will always catch up on you but try to make it right.

I had an easy time reading this book because the author used simple words to construct sentences with no vocabulary. The storyline was amazing, I loved the part when the author could make me emotional while reading, this made me want to read more and yarn to know what next.

What I didn’t like about this book was too many characters hence their roles kept disappearing and kept me hanging while reading, I feel like I needed more of some characters like Rico, I also think that there was too much use of short forms in sentences. Nevertheless, the book was well edited and executed.

Kalayla. by Jeannie Nicholas contains profanities, domestic abuse, rape, and little sexuality. It is an amazing read that can be read over and over again, I give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.

I highly recommend this book to women with bad past experiences who require a comeback or second chance with anything, to mothers or guardians, and to any lover of romantic books
