[Following is a volunteer review of "A Walk in the Twilight" by John J Bosco Jr..]
A Walk in the Twilight by John J.Bosco Jr. is a book containing his memoir, poems, essays philosophical, and religious questions.
The memoir has been written out of insights. Characters in this part have been included to show their contribution to the life of the author. It has also acted as an inspiration for what the author has had to go through. It has been written in such a perfect way that I finished reading it with a broad smile and gained more purpose in my life. The poems added more taste to the book and the essays lit in me a fire and thirst for more knowledge and answers to the questions of our existence. Given a chance, I can read it again and again without getting bored.
After reading the book you will all agree with me that the author is a master of storytelling. He did not miss any part in his memoir as everything was memorable to Him. He has included humor in His writing making the read enjoyable. He made a wise decision of including the memoir which I must recognize. It acts as a mirror and delivers the intent of the book. It takes us to the genesis of his philosophical and religious questions.
The book has a twisted plot. It takes the reader back and forth. This makes the storyline memorable and keeps the reader on toes grasping the flow of the story. The story is fast-paced this does not leave room for boredom. Each character has been given a chapter in the book to bring a clear image of the significance He or She has played in the life of the author.
I can't miss touching on the moral significance of the book. Persistence, the author never gave up on meeting his aspirations in life. He had to work in several places. He has also emphasized mental well-being. He had several panic attacks and other issues but practiced acceptance and sought help from medical professionals. Then the most interesting was choosing a good marriage partner. He has quoted that marrying his best friend has made him live long.
I enjoyed Jackie, the dog, as a character. Her character was humorous. There was a moral lesson to learn from Jackie on how to relate with people no matter who they are. They will always play a part in our lives. I also loved the poem about the Preying Mantis I always pronounced it as "praying mantis" but I finally got the right pronunciation. There is no part that I disliked as each part was calling on my attention.
"As I 'go gentle into that good night' my greatest wish is that I helped someone smile a little broader, laugh a little heartier, and even cry with a bit more purpose." From this quote, you can agree that the book exceeded its expectation. I just came across one typographical error.
I give this book a well-deserved rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The book is humourous, educative, inspirational and a good start to recognizing our purpose in life. I, therefore, recommend this book to that one person out there struggling with life and has many questions with no answers. Otherwise thumbs up to the author.
