[Following is a volunteer review of "Agatha the Beloved Queen" by Fred Pilcher.]
In Agatha the Beloved Queen, Fred Pilcher had successfully presented a captivating story about a strong and compassionate queen in a faraway land called Xana. The queen ruled for about seventy years and she was able to bring prosper and harmony into her land. Therefore, the people of Xana worshiped and admired her; they often called her Agatha the Beloved.
From constructing a schooling system to win battle in the sea, Queen Agatha led her people into a prosper lives. She always made time to visit her people and listen to their stories. She learned valuable lessons from her people, and those knowledges were used to make various policies and decrees. She was mother to all the people of Xana and even though her stories were fading away, she was still remembered by many of her people.
I love the way of narrating this story; a Traveler retelling a story of Queen Agatha the Beloved from the people who still remembered the old prosperous Xana. It gave me the sense of a great and lovely bedtime stories; one that I would certainly tell my children one day. The characters in this book are strong and unique in their own way. I could envision them clearly, and that made my time of reading this book enjoyable.
Even though it does not have thrilling conflict—one which would rouse our adrenalines—but I enjoy it immensely. The great description of how Queen Agatha ruled her kingdom is full of magic and wonder.
Agatha the Beloved Queen is a beautifully written story. It draws people to read more and can’t help but to fantasy what it was really like in Xana when Queen Agatha was in charge. The book was professionally edited and polished. However, I still found few layout and punctuation errors. I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars.
I would recommend this book to those who loves magical, idealistic, positive and harmonious story. If you enjoy Disney princesses’ stories, I’m sure you will enjoy this book.
