[Following is a volunteer review of "The Legacy of Job's Wife" by Cynthia Koelker.]
Cynthia J Koelker in her bookThe Legacy of Job's Wife has attempted to romanticize the Biblical stories of Job without major alterations but the legacy as narrated by his wife and the character portrayed seems to be reshaped and replaced by a beautiful young lady devoted to her family, her siblings her husband Jobs and their children. The story narrated by Jobs's wife is so vivid and heart-rending that it simply grabs you by the heart and pulls you into a world of eternal love. A never-ending flow of love between a husband and wife destined to be so from the day one was born to the time when the other held her as a newborn child in his little hands. Cynthia J Koelker, the author characterizes the Biblical Jobs and brings him to life in a world which is no less than Heaven on Earth in its tranquility, peace, and natural beauty laced with untarnished and unblemished love. Job and Ix’ises lived in this beautiful world amidst music, laughter, and gaiety. They flourished and grew up together, Job so God-fearing, equipped with unlimited empathy, and a genuine feeling for suffering humanity, and Ix’ises with her natural talent, her golden heart oblivious of God and the secrets of his creations. Job & Ix’ises differed in their perspective of God but an incident convinced Ix’ises of God’s presence and the only difference between the two vanished blending them as one never to be distanced in body and soul. A point is reached when the reader begins to wonder how this Utopian world survived without being contaminated by sorrow and grief. The question is answered when God decides to test their love and loyalty and turns their world upside down in total contrast to the world they lived in. They see blood and death everywhere. Their loved ones and their wealth is taken away from them. Ix‘ises's faith is shaken but Job remains strong in his faith. Seeing Job steadfast in his belief in God, the Almighty ceased his gruesome tests and granted them a revival returning everything that He took away from them to begin afresh with a stronger bond with God.
The words, phrases, and vivid narration of a Utopian world captivate the reader who forgets that the story is fiction and not real. . If you are a Romantic you will find love everywhere. You will be overwhelmed by its presence be it love for God, nature, animals, parents, siblings, children, or grandchildren, The reader gets so engrossed that he or she begins to live with the characters. Cynthia has not only created and focused on two people in love, but she also has created an aura around them which ensures that love flourishes in an environment that is free of passion, lust, and sex and matures only when the time is ripe for them to blend as one. Cynthia the author vividly describes every character in the book be it parents, siblings, children , friends and anyone else who influences their lives. As a reader, I don’t have to like or dislike this book. I just have to live in it and flow with it and that’s what I did. Even if you have not studied the various versions of the Book Of Jobs, you tend to relate the story to everyday happenings in the world where people are devoted to God when they are endowed and happy but begin to curse Him when calamity strikes. Consistency in your Faith, no matter what, is the essence of spiritualism. I love this book because it is a glaring example of positivity and faith.
I seemed to have been pulled out of the story by the sudden turn of events. It was as if the author was in a hurry to drop the curtains, change the sets and start a new episode of tears and grief. Everything happened suddenly. Even Noah was given enough warning for him to be able to build the Ark. Although like I said before, I was wondering when the evil part would come, I was not prepared for it.
There were no significant grammatical errors and the book did not offer any major flaws which might otherwise affect the Reader’s concentration. I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars for its flawless choice of words, maintaining spiritual sanctity, and for its Professional editing. I recommend it to all romantic and religious book enthusiasts irrespective of their beliefs and religion.
