Think about it. We live in a peaceful world where people from different backgrounds, religious affiliations, and races coexist harmoniously. I know it sounds like a utopia. Yet, hatred has fueled us for so long that we view peace and tolerance as alien. This book is a reminder that world peace is achievable. We only have to be prepared to put in the work.

In A Dream For Peace, author Dr. Ghoulem Berrah presents his fascinating memoir. The author is born to a native Algerian family. From the onset, he is an excellent young man. He excels in his studies, securing a scholarship to study abroad. He goes on to become an acclaimed scientist. While studying, he is actively involved in the fight for his country's independence. He spends the better part of his life serving the Ivorian president Houphouet-Boigny.

What captivated me most about the book was the author's passion for realizing his dream of a peaceful world. There are not a lot of people who would advocate for tolerance towards the same people that have oppressed them and their colleagues. The colonial administration wrongfully incarcerates the author at one point as he fights for his country's freedom. While the average man would see this as enough reason to hate and possibly seek vengeance against their oppressor, the author harbors no ill intent towards them. This desire for peace drives him to become a renowned diplomat in his later life. The book challenged me to join the fight for universal peace, albeit in a smaller capacity.

I have read many an autobiography. In some, the authors write glamorous tales with some aspects that may not be entirely truthful. In others, the authors insist upon giving authentic and unadulterated accounts. This book, thankfully, falls in the latter category. The author points out the lows, the highs, and the struggles together with success. Yet, despite his incredible achievements, he ensures the reader understands that he is a man like any other. I found this enormously endearing.

While some readers will not appreciate the book's slow pace, I found it vital to ensure that the author told the story entirely. Moreover, the book was exceptionally edited. As a result, I could not find a negative thing in it. For these reasons, I would award it a rating of four out of four stars.

Men like Dr. Ghoulem Berrah are as rare as gems. This book pays proper homage to a fantastic man. I would recommend this book to history enthusiasts and those in power.
