[Following is a volunteer review of "Love Yourself & Lose Weight: The Success Story of Self Love" by Katie Lips.]
Love Yourself & Lose Weight: The Success Story of Self Love by Katie Lips talks about one woman´s journey into feeling and looking better and healthier, through a somewhat unconventional method, without using restrictive dieting, limiting herself or putting pressure on herself to lose weight in a certain time frame. Katie Lips uses self love as a cure for what ails her- not feeling good about herself, not treating herself kindly, not being a good role model for her daughter, and finally, just not fitting into the jeans she likes. Katie Lips speaks of all the events in her life that got her to that low point in her life and how she dicovered what it took to turn it all around.
Negative aspects of the book are few, considering that this is a self help book and the author tries to pass on the wisdom that helped her achieve her success. Naming one negative aspect, I consider the book a bit too long for what it is trying to say. It could have been shorter and more straight to the point.
There are a few positive aspects of Love Yourself & Lose Weight: The Success Story of Self Love, one being that the reader has the feeling of talking to a close friend, who is elated that she found this way to better herself, to treat herself with respect and to just look the best she can. This close friend is now trying to show us the way.
Another positive aspect is that, the book is written as a manual, other than sharing her experience, Katie Lips also offers steps that got her to the point of where she is now- happy with herself. The reader could perhaps alter the steps, in order to suit himself or herself better, but the steps are universal enough to help anyone.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars, because it is inspirational to read and could nudge someone, looking for help in this area, into the right direction.
I recommend this book to anyone trying to find that self love, in order to make a bold move in their lives: to lose weight, to take up running, to eat healthier, anything that would be a health changing event in their life. This book would also be a nice gift for someone you love and you know is looking to make that change.
