Adam had always felt odd. He had a disgusted feeling toward every human being he knew. He found them repulsive. On the other hand, he was sexually attracted to his mother and had no idea why. It wasn't until he met Carly that things started to make sense. Adam was sitting in class one day when a new student was introduced. He was surprised that he didn't find her repulsive and, after gazing into her eyes, he could swear he saw them change color. He eventually became friends with this girl, and she revealed to him that she had special powers. She was part of a bloodline with genes that had mutated. They were called Descendants. After much digging, Adam realizes that he had powers too, and that he was from one of the seven mutated bloodlines. Of course, there are scientists who hunt down these descendants to kill them. Will Carly and Adam be discovered?

Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign is a fast-paced and suspenseful story. With her vivid descriptions and nail-biting scenes, the author pulls us into the action of the story. The plot was very intriguing, cohesive, and full of mystery. There was no information that didn't tie in with the overall plot. The characters were well-developed and full of depth. I liked Adam's character most of all. We watched him evolve from a dark place in his life after meeting someone he could really connect with.

This was a well-written novel that was very hard to put down. I could not find a single thing to dislike about this book. It had a lot of emotional and tear-jerking moments, especially towards the end of the book. I liked the way the author left no strings untied and I must commend her on how impeccable her writing is. The plot flowed smoothly and there wasn't a moment throughout the entire book that I wasn't on edge. The author's ability to grab her reader's attention is amazing.

Opaque was exceptionally well-edited. I take great pride in giving it a perfect rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I could not give it any lower rating because the book is perfect and needs no improvements. This is the first book of the saga, and the author generously gives us a sneak peek into book two at the end of this book. I must admit that I'm excited to read the other books in the series.

For persons who enjoy reading about powers, the supernatural, and interesting mutations, this is the perfect book to get. I would also recommend it to anyone who enjoys mystery, suspense, and young adult novels.
