I read the book the Mountain and The Goat. It was by Siamak Taghaddos. It is about a boy who was running to a mountain. While he was running, he saw a singing goat. The goat gave him some bread and water. He also gave the boy some important advice about planning ahead. The boy ate the bread and went on his merry way. He performed different actions like watering soil and milking a cow. From each action he got a gift which he gave to someone and got a gift in return. For example, He gave milk to the smith and received a pair of scissors. The scissors he gave to a tailor who made a coat. In the end, he gave glasses to his dad. The father and son made a treehouse together.

There are many good aspects to this book. I liked the singing goat. I thought making the goat have a talent gave some character to the goat. I especially liked the ending where the father and son were working together to build a treehouse. I liked how the book had a father and son working together. I also liked how on the back, the author talked about the moral of the story was to be resourceful.

There were many things I didn't like about the book. The pictures weren't very colorful. The illustrator used neutral colors. The drawings were very basic. The story starts with the promise of a singing goat. It doesn't really have much of a plot. The goat gives some advice in the beginning, but you never see or hear from the goat again. It would have been nice if the goat had come back later in the story. There is really no conflict. Every character gives or does something to get a gift. There was not much action, and it was very predictable.

I would give this book a 2 out of 4. It was fair. I liked the singing goat, but the goat never came back. The wise advice that the goat gave was never followed. The boy didn't have a goal. It would have been nice if the is there was some conflict in the middle of the story. Perhaps the tailor saw a bear and had to find a way to fight it off. It would have been nice if the goat came back in the middle and in the end of the book. It would have linked the story together more. The author could have had all the characters come back at the end to observe the treehouse. The author had a good skeleton for the story. He just needed to develop the story more. I think with a little revision, this story shows a lot of potential.
