[Following is a volunteer review of "Without Redemption" by David Griffith.]
Losing one's job and sustaining a bad arm can be depressing. The will to satisfy one's needs can push one to make unthinkable decisions that can endanger one's life
Without Redemption by David Griffith takes us through the life of Lonnie Bowers. His only chance of keeping his job was to win a riding championship. He lost in the finals and ended up with a broken arm. Lonnie had once worked for an organization called The Stirling Associates, where he was nicknamed “the Indian.” On losing his job, his former boss came to him to assist him on one last mission, with a vacation with his wife and son Conor as the reward. He took a day off to complete his mission after agreeing to it and leaving with his family. He was to get a parcel for his boss from the king of the Mexican cartel, Joaquin Guzman, The El Chapo. Unfortunately, things went wrong for him, and now he’s on the run with his wife and son, and the only escape route is through the jungle. He lost sight of his wife and son while on the run and had to take a different route. But with El Chapo's tracker hot on his heels, would he find his wife and son in time? Would Lonnie escape the wrath of the El Chapo while faced with the harshness of the jungle?
The book is attractive because you won’t want to stop the moment you start reading. It gives an insight into surviving life in the jungle with all details well-explained step-by-step. Despite being fiction, I could imagine all the scenarios in the book, which made it seem real. I liked that the author paid attention to character development and left no lapses that might have affected the book's readability.
There is nothing I didn’t like about the book. It was thrilling, appealing, and pleasing till the very end. The piece was suspense-filled, which kept me on edge as I was curious about certain characters.
I would rate the book a 4 out of 4 stars. It was adventurous, suspense-filled, and easy to understand. There were no errors or misspelled words as it was professionally edited and well punctuated. Despite the ugly situations portrayed in the book, there was no use of profanities, which also added a plus to the book’s uniqueness.
I would recommend this book to kids and adults as it is adventurous and doesn’t contain any mature content. However, I do not recommend it to readers who are sensitive to murder scenes.
