Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is a good reading about self discovery, family, a very different family. We start with Tom meeting his teen grandchild Sarah, but he never knew his daughter had a child, so it's a big surprise just before going to a hike to honor Tom's grandpa, Bob-Bob, who is buried among the forest, with two friends (William and Myra, father and daughter).

The author tell us a story occurring in the present and also the distant past. An artifact found on tribal lands is at the center of this story and links both timelines.

This book have a slow beginning but is filled with adventure, a bit of mystery and also history, something I enjoyed a lot. We can distinguish two parts in the story. I liked more the first one, we learn a lot about the characters. Tee rest of the story mixes reality with magic, tales from ancient eras, and the journey of Sarah and how she get the nickname that is also the title of the book.

We can find heavy influences by Native American legends in this book, and for someone who don't know about this, I feel interested enough that I would want to look into this world and culture outside of this book. Also I loved how the book talks about the impact of modern civilization on our surroundings.

I like the connection between the epigraph and Sarah's experience as 'Strong Heart'. I think this is a good book for middle school and high school students, it not too long or short of the book and it was written tightly and concisely to hold interest of the readers.
