How My Brain Works: A Guide to Understanding It Better and Keeping It Healthy by Dr. Barbara Koltuska-Haskin breaks down how one's brain and actions are intertwined. Dr. Koltuska-Haskin explains the history of Neuropsychology while pressing the importance of evaluations in the first half of the book. Dr. Koltuska-Haskin examines how such evaluations can provide crucial insight into one's behavior and actions. The second half of How My Brain Works dives into brain health and how one can help stimulate the brain through active learning and meditation. How My Brain Works gives an introductory breakdown into the science of Neuropsychology as well as how it can be applied to everyday life.
I enjoyed reading Dr. Koltuska-Haskins’ How My Brain Works as a way to gain insight into the inner workings of my own mind and those around me. I appreciated how Dr. Koltuska-Haskins broke down a variety of different ways evaluations are available as well as useful. The second half, entitled Brain Health, was a gentle reminder of how important a healthy diet, daily exercise, and a restful night's sleep can be for one's overall health and brain function. How My Brain Works was a positive read for gaining useful insights into mental health and overall well-being.
As much as I enjoyed reading How My Brain Works, I found some of the chapters to be repetitive. How My Brain Works is an introduction to Neuropsychology so there may be some chapters that a reader finds do not apply to them. I appreciate the insight Dr. Koltuska-Haskins’ provides, as well as the information about the inner workings of the brain. I felt at times that there was an overflow of information in one section and minimal information in another example. Overall, How My Brain Works gives the reader an in-depth overview of Neuropsychology.
I would rate How My Brain Works 4 out of 4 stars. I found the book to be professionally edited and did not find any spelling or grammar errors. I found the book to be filled with information about how the brain works and tools to help support brain function. The book appears well researched and is informative.
How My Brain Works: A Guide to Understanding It Better and Keeping It Healthy by Dr. Barbara Koltuska-Haskin is an introduction to Neuropsychology for anyone looking to gain basic insight into how the brain works. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for more information about ADD/ADHD as well as Brain Trauma. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for an educational read and who enjoyed learning through story-telling. Dr. Koltuska-Haskin uses many anecdotes and patient experiences to share insight into how one's brain functions. This was a very enjoyable read that kept my attention and I would recommend it.
