[Following is a volunteer review of "Agatha the Beloved Queen" by Fred Pilcher.]
Agatha the Beloved Queen is a book by Fred Pilcher. One can easily denote from the title what the book is all about. This book tells us the story of a queen named Agatha. She is a person of interest because her view of her kingdom and how it should be ruled was so different from her successors' methods, and that could be noted way before she had even ascended to the throne. Fred gives us details on how the story was gathered and penned based on it. He elaborated on the life of Agatha, since her birth. He tells us of her childhood as a princess to her ascension of a queen. He particularizes on her challenges as queen and the reason she got to be liked so much by her people.
The book was created by the use of simple words and details. Given the sentence structure, this book would have made the best bedtime stories for kids. The part restricting it from achieving that is the sensual scenes widely spread throughout the book. The moral values in the book are in plenty and would have done well for the young generation. This is one book that I believe was written to show readers that with good leadership, it is easy to achieve a prospering society.
The detailing of the plot was exhaustive; hence a lot of words were used to describe very few little details. This made it tiring to read. It also does not give one a sense of mystery, which in turn expresses no suspense or stirs any curiosity. This makes it bland. The tone of the book was child-like; thus it was a thumbs down to find elaborative erotic scenes later in the book. The writer would also cram minor character stories into a few chapters and finish off all their life achievements before going on with the main characters, bringing out the imbalance in the book. This made the book have the feel of inconsistent plotting.
I would rate the book 2 out of 4 stars. The book was extraordinarily well-edited, I could find no errors. The rating is because I did not enjoy the structure of the plot. After all, it did not bring any spark that would make me want to turn pages as fast as possible. This is a book that I might put on a shelf and forget I ever had it. It never brought out the incentive that would make me wish for a re-read.
I will recommend this book to newbies, those who wish to venture into the reading of novels. This makes for a nice starting step. For those moving from short stories and who wish to try for a longer version, this is the book for you. For adventure readers, I will not recommend it for there is no adventure to take part in. Anyone who has the patience to omit the sensual passages, this book will make for a nice bedtime story for the young ones.
