Review of Little White Lies

[Following is a volunteer review of "Little White Lies" by JC Anderson.]
Little White Lies by J.C. Anderson is the story of a young, beautiful, and ambitious kindergarten teacher, Mia Stone. She is dedicated to her work, detailed, and enjoys organizing classes with her students. Mia has a family that supports her, fabulous friends, and a boyfriend, Michael, who loves her and makes her smile. Mia and Michael are a couple full of life, with many common interests. In short, everything is going in the right direction.
Unexpectedly, her first love and former best friend, Lucas Bauer, returns to her life. They lost contact many years ago when Lucas joined the army, but he left a mark and has a special place in her heart. Mia, confused and overwhelmed with emotions, allows him to approach her, and at that moment, everything starts to fall apart. Is it really that wrong? How terrible are the consequences?
Little White Lies is a novel with plenty of plots and reviews of the past. The structure is such that we follow the story from three perspectives of the essential characters: Mia, Michael, and Lucas. In this way, it was easier to get to know the characters and understand their actions and the course of the story. I was particularly fascinated by Lucas. His thoughts and behavior constantly threw me off balance. He is intelligent and resourceful and, at the same time, unpredictable, unstable, and very dangerous. His biological parents were drug addicts, and his adoptive family was too strict. It seemed that no one but Mia and her parents gave him a helping hand in the right way. I could not help but wonder if everything would be different if he had lived in a better family or gotten help from organizations that work with problematic people. Does society carelessly make such people?
To my great surprise, this romantic thriller is quite tense. Unpredictability and constant anticipation are what make us turn page after page without a break. What I did not like were the numerous sex scenes and details. There are also spelling mistakes that can confuse the reader. Accordingly, I will rate it with 3 out of 4 stars. It couldn’t be less, because the book is intriguing and captivating.
I gladly recommend the book to mature readers who love romantic thrillers. The story is about love, friendship, and respect, but rest assured that the tension the writer has created cannot leave you indifferent. I must note that the book contains scenes of violence, rape, profanity, drug use, and explicit sex scenes. The book is not the right choice for those sensitive to this content.
