Review of My life uncensored
Cristina Caymares' autobiography, My life uncensored, is about her life as a kid without a father. The author recounts many occurrences that had affected her as a youngster. She talks about how her maternal and paternal families are radically different. The book is a short tale of 44 pages narrating the author's unique and unvarnished life.
Following her father's untimely death, the author and her sister had to split their time between two households, each with its own set of circumstances. Growing up, she was exposed to a lot of instances, such as her mother's marital issues and her grandfather's crimes, which influenced her personality. Visiting her aunt caused her some sought of discomfort because of the change in her surroundings. The chapters were dedicated to the author's mother, departed father, and his family, grandmother, and grandfather. She has highlighted various interactions with each of them that had a significant influence on her life and on who she is now.
As the title suggests, the author kept the stories transparent and straightforward. Throughout the piece, the author's honest and uncensored sentiments are clear. She had the foresight to neither sugarcoat nor lie about her true nature. The author has successfully communicated her emotions using simple language. The author's balanced way of presenting several topics with no hatred or disappointment in any of them astounded me. I was also interested in the author's early acceptance of herself and her family's predicament. I could sense her honesty and suffering as she was going through that time in her life. The author included photos of her parents and grandparents in her post, implying her undying love for her family. When I was reading, I didn't see any mistakes. The book is professionally edited, in my opinion.
The format and flow of the chapters, on the other hand, had some flaws. It was choppy at times and didn't appear to have connectivity. At times confusing, and I had to go back to the text to figure out what was going on. While reading the stories, I became disoriented.
For the reasons mentioned above, I will rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I wanted to give it 3.5 stars but unfortunately, there isn't one. The text included no profanity and did not refer to religion or religious beliefs. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys reading memoirs with raw and unfiltered emotions.
