Book eight in the Inca Cat Detective series, Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula, is a children’s storybook written by R.F. Kristi. The story begins with Inca’s human mother, Missy, being selected as a judge for a French Patisserie Competition which will be held in South Korea. Missy will use this opportunity to introduce her new cheese, La Crème de la Crème, at the competition. So, the whole family, including Solo, has packed their bags to fly to Seoul for this event.

On reaching Korea, they meet their translator and tour guide, Ye-Jun. Ye-Jun humbly invites them to stay at his house. There, they discover that Ye-Jun has a sister, Ji, and a cat named Bo-Mi, who got apart when Ji went to visit her relatives up in the north. Since Ji is taking part in the competition, Ye-Jun has a chance to meet her beloved sister again. Will Ye-Jun cross the border to meet her sister? Will Ji and Bo-Mi be able to return home? What will Inca do to reunite the family?

Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is a lovely and engaging storybook that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The storyline was simple, yet entertaining to read. I loved the illustrations by Jorge Valle. They perfectly matched the textual scenarios. I noticed that the illustrations were placed exactly right where it would be difficult for kids to imagine or comprehend the text. I found the book tremendously informative. It provides ample basic information about South Korea and its beauty.

Kristi has used many foreign words in the story but has provided meaning and explanation for all the words. This will spark curiosity in kids to know and learn other foreign languages. I commend Kristi’s way of encouraging children to learn about other countries and their cultures through a simple idea of sightseeing. The book also teaches important family and life lessons, such as teamwork, friendship, loving, and caring for all the family members.

There was nothing to dislike in the book. The book is professionally edited, for I found only a handful of errors. Therefore, I happily rate this storybook four out of four stars. Finally, I recommend this book to children of age 7 to 12 years. Animal lovers who enjoy adventurous and detective stories will also like this short read. Parents, teachers, and guardians everyone can read this fun storybook to their children.

Books with foreign words sometimes are difficult to comprehend but the good thing is that the author explains them. Thanks for the review.

An intriguing story. I love how the author added bits of a different language and culture to arouse the curiosity of children about them.

Lovely review.

Old as I am, I read and enjoyed the entire series. Inca is a kindhearted but naughty feline! He gets into too much trouble but mostly for the benefit of those around him. Awesome review!
