[Following is a volunteer review of "The Altitude Journals" by David J Mauro.]
The Altitude Journals by David J Mauro made me realize that things happen in our lives for a reason. This book takes readers through the author’s journey as he faces life challenges, but eventually, he finds himself a daring mountain climber who no one believed in except his brother-in-law, Ty.
David J. Mauro perfectly narrates his journey before his seven-year summiting and climbing the seven tallest mountain peaks. He talks about his early life, marriage, his fears and challenges as he narrates his remarkable journey. This makes the readers quickly connect with him and fall in love with his story right from the beginning. In summary, readers should not only expect his wins, but they should be prepared to go through his journey as he tries to figure things out and finally facing his fears.
The book had great compelling themes that really kept me from putting it down. Some of the main themes that really got to me include marriage, love, fear, forgiveness, relationship, courage, and education. To break this down, the author talks about his marriage and divorce, he narrates his father and son relationship, finding love and being able to love again and how he had to face his fears as a mountain climber. Additionally, if you have never gone on mountain climbing, there are many educational lessons to learn from this book.
Other than the main themes, there’s so much I loved about the book. I loved and enjoyed how the author took us through his journey without getting bored. I appreciate the fact that the book was not just about conquering mountains, but a story of self-discovery with a bit of humor. Finally, I also loved the author's tone. It made me relate and connect with him at a deeper level because it made me feel like he is someone that I know.
I rate The Altitude Journals by David J Mauro 3 out of 4 stars because it was professionally edited, engaging, unique, and very relatable when compared to other similar books that I have read before. The story is easy to follow without getting lost in-between because it is well-paced with a great writing style. Additionally, David J Mauro narrates his story perfectly, in that I felt like I was there experiencing it with him. I did not give it a perfect 4 stars because the book had a few grammatical errors, however, it did not interfere with my reading enjoyment.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy adventure and anyone looking to have a great, fun, and inspiring read. In conclusion, the book left me feeling motivated and inspired to face my fears.
