Review of The Maestro Monologue
As much as this is a work of non-fiction, the central character in the book is actually you, the reader. The straight talking, no punches pulled dialogue used by the author, is deliberate to grab your attention and challenge your preconceived convictions you had about yourself. The book brings forth the notion that you are schizophrenic. There is a conscious part of you which is what you project outwardly, to the world, and a subconscious part of you that is based on who and what you believe yourself to be. Only you are aware of this inner view as this is never projected outward but forms the foundation on which outward projections are made. The essence of the narrative is this - what if some, if not most, of your convictions about yourself are wrong? There are no right or wrong answers in the book. It is for you to consider whether there are certain aspects of your makeup that should be changed. The narrative is littered with tips and advice on how you can do this.
The Maestro Monologue by Rob White asserts that when things in your life do not go according to plan then one of the first things you do is to look where the fault lies - is it with you or someone else or something else? Rob takes this a step further by stating that you can find the right answer only by evaluating, and validating, what no one else can see or control - your belief system. By questioning what you hold to be true about yourself, your whole life, you give yourself the ability to change what no longer fits. Thus, moving you to a new level of subconscious beliefs that then change what, and how, you project yourself to the world.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the book was the positiveness that flowed from just about every page - it was quite contagious. This mood is supported by an abundance of quotes from well respected sources that give the book a feeling of authenticity. Rob also shares some of his life experiences that have culminated in the writing of The Maestro Monologue. This work by Rob is practical, philosophical, thought provoking and above all, couched in a sense of honesty and true purpose that most readers will find hard to ignore. I can honestly say that by the time I finished reading the book I had already started questioning certain negative experiences in my life with a different set of lenses. This process will undoubtedly continue for the rest of my life.
There is a fair amount of repetition of phrases and suggestions in the narrative that could irritate some readers. I forgave him for this as I put it down to his passion and enthusiasm in trying to get his message across.
Spelling and grammar errors were minimal enough for it not to be an issue and coupled with the positive views I raised earlier, I am giving the book a rating of four out of four stars.
I would recommend The Maestro Monologue to more mature readers who have had a good grounding of life experiences as the book takes you from early childhood, where you are not aware or accountable for your mistakes, to adulthood. In adulthood we are accountable for our successes or failures. Either way, this work by Rob can assist you in managing to give yourself a heightened awareness of who and what, you really are. So, if you are out there with more questions than answers, whether about yourself or just life in general, then you owe it to yourself to have a read of The Maestro Monologue.
