Shade if Highfall is the wonderful tale of a courageous girl SHREW, who has no one to support her, no family nor friend. She is surviving in the cruel world of Low Reach, developing skills to keep herself alive. With the twist of fate, she finds herself in a workhouse where life is crueler than the dunes of highfall. So deciding not to surrender to the cruelty of fate, she tried to flee from the workhouse. In this fight between freedom and slavery, she finds herself connected to an ancient character. A fay warden. As time passes their bond gets stronger, she can hear fay in her mind. A first true friend. After that, her life improves much more, with proper education and fighting training she is unstoppable. On the other side, evil is on its work. Darkness is working to consume the world. With shrew’s polished skills and with her fay friend blessings, she will be fighting against evil,

Mark O’ Dell has done an exceptional job in creating this story. You will taste all the adventures that shrew is experiencing, will feel her pain and joy. As the story progresses you will be fell in love with the characters and specially Shrew. Her bravery, her courage will bind you with herself. She portrays loyalty and love for her friends. She would not hesitate to risk her life for her friends. She proves her loyalty by taking her fay friend to the ancient fay city that is buried under the city of highfall, from where no one had ever returned. Mark O’Dell defines the city in detail that you will be able to see it with your eyes. He does complete justice to his characters and leaves no one behind.

There are too many details about highfall buildings and street and everything that at one point these feels unnecessary. You lost interest in the story, especially in starting chapters, it takes some time to get used to, and there must be a good balance between storyline and other detail. The story is much slower at the start.

I give this book 3 out 4 stars. Extra details are the reason for decreasing the fourth star. Although the text is well written, the book is professionally proofread and there is almost no mistake in spelling or grammar.

Overall this is a good book, if you are a fantasy lover then this book is definitely for you. Easy flowing story. How the event takes place one after another will bind you to the book. I highly recommend this book. This book is as suitable for young teenagers as mature persons. You can recommend this book to your fantasy-loving young ward without tension. Readers who love to read about magic, fay, good against evil, this is indeed for them.
