Unhinged is a young adult drama novel filled with a lot of relatable and very human experiences.
Steve Galley, the author delivers quite the story, gluing me right to the screen with the first paragraph.
Unhinged follows Eddie, a highschool senior who just trying to live a simple and normal life but it is filled with many complications.
Eddie struggles trying to juggle education, sport, friendships and romantic relationships all the while battling chronic anxiety and depression.

One of the things that stand out about this story for me, and truly my favorite aspect of it, is how believable and unique every character is, from alcoholics, to stern fathers, to strong independent single moms. The relationships too are very relatable, none of it feels like a stretch.
The book's main theme is also something I found appealing, mental health is often a topic many authors try to steer clear of but Steve went into it heads on and did an amazing job at portraying the characters' emotions.

The story does have its drawbacks as well though. I was bothered by the lack of depth in the dialogue, some of it was barely believable. I felt let down especially as I didn't really feel as connected to the dialogue as I was to the rest of the story. Some of the chapters may have been unimportant to the story because I felt nothing significant actually happened in them.

Finally, I'm giving this fine piece of work 3 out of 4 stars because it's a real page turner and has all the elements necessary to help young adults growing in a age where anxiety attacks and depression are looked at as a sign of weakness. It would have scored a perfect score especially as I liked the ending because it showed that seeking help is all we truly need to do to cure ourselves but the lack of depth of the dialogue made me rethink my earlier decision.
This story remains an excellent one though and I can confidently say I'd re-read a couple more times because it's that good.
