[rwc=id417093-125]4 out of 4 stars.[/rwc]When you think of Alaska, you picture a white landscape filled with large trees. The people who call it home scattered haphazardly throughout. People who want nothing more than to live and be at one with nature. What you don’t expect is murder. However, that is exactly what a small town wakes up to one morning. But in a place where nothing but paper thin walls separate one family from the other, how did this happen without everyone knowing? That is exactly what Andy Mohr is determined to find out when details don’t add up for him in Killing Your Best Friend.

Valda Taurus does an excellent job of keeping her readers attention and interest. Each time you think you think you have everything figured out there is a plot twist that sends you digging further to find what comes next. All of the characters manage to worm their way into your head and pull on some inner part of you. Even the characters you don’t care for so much manage to relate to the reader in one way or another. The description provided helps make the scenes play out in your mind so that you don’t even realize you’re turning pages at times.

I was left wanting more information on a few loose ends when I finished the book. Nothing major that would have changed the outcome, but just would have made the book feel complete. On completion I found that I wanted to look for an epilogue or something to give an update on how each of the other characters involved worked out their mess. Perhaps there is one coming?

Overall, Taurus delivers a stimulating read for any thrill seeker and earned 4 out of 4 stars. There were few errors and very little that I could say about this book that would work against it. For a first book, I must say that I am extremely impressed and will be watching for more of her work in the future. This has been a very unique book and the way it worked out was not quite what I thought it would be and had my mind running circles.

Anyone looking for a good thriller that keeps the gore and blood to a minimum will find that this book fits their goal. There is a romance theme running under the main theme, but nothing that will turn away more modest readers. Young Adult and up will find this book worth their time and even older high schoolers. Taurus keeps all things that may trigger more sensitive people to a small scale and she doesn’t cross unnecessary lines for the sake of adding color.
