Review by Marjorie Woods -- The Site by Carlos Valrand
The Site by Carlos Valrand belongs in the category of scientific fiction along with a hint of thrill. In this novel, Cicely Denfeld, a school teacher has haunting dreams which are disturbing yet clear as crystal. These dreams feature two Americans: Charles Ryder and his associate Vivian Venables who are working on a mysterious document. She sees the events happening through both Ryder and Venables' eyes. Denfeld consults a psychiatrist for her unusual dreams. While following the trail together Ryder and Venables go through a series of ups and downs together and start to develop the hots for each other. While the psychiatrist that Denfeld consults, Dr. McClellen relies for her treatment on psychological means, Denfeld starts to think that these lucid dreams are actually events in another person's life. But are they actually? Will she ever find out what is happening to her? Will Ryder and Venables figure out the mysterious document?
The character of Vivian Venables was truly one of a kind. The author did a incredible job at making her headstrong and independent. She is practical and doesn't back down. Another thing I liked particularly about this book is how sophisticated the description of surroundings is yet how I still understand everything. The scenes drawn by the author in front of you are very comfortable and on point. Valrand leaves the reader wanting for more with the good suspense building. The last thing I loved about the book was the character development of Cicely Denfeld. She grew from her insecurities and finally realized her worth.
The only thing I did not like about this book was that there a bit too many sexual scenes and references for a science fiction.
Considering all the facts above I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars. The book contains three to four profanities and typo errors. Whereas, the extensive research for the book make up for the typos.
I would recommend the book to mature audiences due to several sexual scenes and profanities.
