After an amusing demonstration of what pirates are like by Evan’s dad during breakfast, Evan, Violet, and Greyson go swimming with Evan’s parents at the beach. They swim a little too far from shore and soon get carried away by the waves to a faraway island, where they then get rescued by pirates aboard the Dirty Dog. The pirates are nice to them, but they soon find themselves in the middle of a battle, as another pirate ship wants their treasure. Will Evan and his friends ever get home? Will they survive the battle? Find out how things pan out for Evan, his friends, and the crew of the Dirty Dog by giving this book a read.

Evan and His Friends Meet the Pirates is a very lovely book, and I greatly enjoyed reading every page. The author, Chris Williams, writes straightforwardly with simple words, and I liked it. Kez Andrews did the illustrations in this book, and even though they are not very realistic, I like how colorful they are and how pleasing they are to the eyes; children will love looking at these illustrations. The characters are easy to remember, and that’s a good thing if the reader is a child.

I enjoyed the plot of this book, but it would have benefited from a little more suspense; I enjoyed this book nonetheless. I think the editors did a great job because I didn’t come across any spelling errors, misused words, or sexual content.

I rate Evan and His Friends Meet the Pirates 4 out of 4 stars because so much care has gone into making this book. From the beautiful illustrations to the writing style and plot, I enjoyed it all and didn’t rate it lower because I did not dislike anything about the book.

While I think anyone can read and enjoy this book, I would recommend it to children aged 8-12 and adults who are learning to read in the English language. Younger children aged 4-8 might need an adult to read it to them to get the best experience while reading this book.

Sexual content isn't the first thing one hopes to run into while reading a children's book and if they did, well, that would be quite scalding. The storyline behind this book is quite basic so, while I might not be too keen on reading it, I do not think it is a bad book to read.
