Exactly! Everything felt fairly natural to me, especially the emotions both Kalayla and Lena express and work through. Thanks for the comment

I particularly love your review. It is quite detailed and thorough. Well done!
I was a little too at some points because she believes so strongly that she’s the only smart one and I could see that being really detrimental. Then again, I don’t find it hard to believe that a lot of eleven year-olds think the same way.
She's still a child. Over time, she might outgrow her self-confidence.

I've reviewed this book too, but your review is certainly better written. Congratulations.

I like how the author shares some serious social issues such as racism and PTSD. Thanks for the enlightening review.

I'm glad that you liked the book! I did find it difficult to connect with characters other than Lena, though. Thank you for the detailed review!

When you said "classic novel," I was afraid that was leading to "cliché." Instead, I can see that the book deals with some pretty serious issues in a thoughtful manner. Thanks for your review!

Expulsion from the family for marrying a black man? I would love to know how this book ended. Seems like there is a lot of life lessons to be garnered here.

This is one of my favorite books that I read this year. The characters are realistic in their interactions; I appreciated that. Thanks for sharing your review.

I have not had the pleasure of reading this book. Now I feel I am missing out. Kalayla seems quite the character, and Lena isn't far behind.

They’re both so full of personality and spunk and want to do what’s best but are never entirely sure what that is. I’d highly recommend it!

Great review! I liked this book too. However, I thought some of the events were skipped a bit too quickly, as if the book needed a fistful of more pages. What do you think?
