[Following is a volunteer review of "Wilderness Cry" by Hilary L Hunt M.D..]
Wilderness Cry: A Scientific and Philosophical Approach to Understanding God and the Universe by Hilary L. Hunt M.D. was truly an interesting and thought-provoking read. Through his book, the author shares his views about God and the universe, as well as his doubts towards the Church's interpretation of the Bible. He expresses his opinions eloquently, then backs them up with logical explanations and supporting evidence.
There are multiple positive aspects to this book that I like. Firstly, I really like how the book brings out a different perspective of God that might not have been a particularly popular opinion. The author talks about how the Church might not have been wholly accurate when interpreting the Bible's messages about God and Jesus. Instead the author shares his own interpretations of the Bible. This made me consider the Bible from another perspective, and opened my eyes to another point of view that others might have. It also taught me how doing one's own research could give you different perspectives on the situation. Thus, the book was very eye-opening.
Secondly, I like how the author supports his opinions with concrete examples. Whenever the author and talked about how he disgareed with the Church's view, he would cite evidence from the Bible or other sources. Furthermore, he would give a comprehensive explanation of why he thought this way. I felt that this made the book much more persuasive, as the opinions stated were backed by logical explanations and examples that could clearly prove the author's point.
As for the negative aspects, I felt that the author was too aggressive, and too biased at times. For example, he would often capitalise certain words to emphasise a point. I felt that that was unnecessary, and instead he could have used repetition, or further explanation to highlight these points. Furthermore, there were a few grammatical errors throughout the book, which distracted me from the main point of the sentence.
I think that this book deserves a rating of 3 out of 4 stars, because of how informative and eye-opening it is. However, not the full number of stars was awarded due to the two errors stated in the above paragraphs. I would reccomend this book to people who are looking to understand more about different perspectives regarding God and religion. I hope that everyone who reads this book will do so with an open mind, and learn as much as I did.
