Love, Grandma by Ann Morris is a book written for children. It tells the story of the special bond shared by a grandparent and her grandchildren. Grandma’s activities with Payton include dancing with teddy bears, reading, singing, as well as shoulder and pony rides. When Haley comes along, there are more activities, thus increasing the fun. The girls get to bake, make crafts and have sleepovers at Grandma’s.
Ann Morris writes books for children. She has a passion for nurturing good relationships between children and adults. Her other books include Mommy and Mikel go for a walk and Surprise in Auntie’s Garden.
The book has 20 pages that are filled, with lovely colourful illustrations and rhyming text. The images are both appropriate and relatable. They help describe the text, feelings and actions of the characters. Such not only makes it understandable for the reader but also remind the reader of having done similar activities.
I loved that the illustrations showed the different activities that Grandma had with Payton and Haley evolved as they grew. The picture of Grandma and Payton dancing with the teddy bears was a highlight for me. It made me think that Grandma was not too old when her grandchildren were born. Not many grandparents and grandchildren get that luxury. The book teaches children of the bond that they can have with their grandparents. Those that already have such a bond can easily be encouraged to keep the bond. I think that it is a good book for a grandmother to read with her grandchildren. What I didn’t like about the book was it took me a while to note that the text rhymed.
This book is rated 4 out of 4 stars. I did not note any errors. However, I did notice on one page there was one capitalized word in the middle of a sentence. I am not sure if it meant to show emphasis. As this is a children’s book, the capitalization is not necessary. I happily recommend it to children aged 8 to 9 years of age as well as their parents or older relatives.
