Rescued by E. Alan Fleischauer is a western novel that has all of the attributes of a western movie. The reader will encounter scenes which are full of violence, gunfights, comedy, a bit of romance and quests for treasure and bounty money.

The hero in this novel is a loner called JT Thomas. The story opens with him being alone in a cave, seemingly enjoying a profitable discovery. He then manages to see some women in need of help and he proceeds to rescue them.

As the novel unfolds, the reader will see JT finding himself in situations where he has to rescue persons, many of whom are strangers. He saves them from robberies, gang members and even from themselves. He is a true hero in this novel.

I enjoyed reading this story as the chapters are short and engaging. The language used by Fleischauer is also very descriptive which brings the novel to life. Background information is also given on all of the major characters. This causes the reader to relate better with and understand them even more. The reader may even feel a bit of sympathy towards two of the villains in the book due to their traumatic pasts.

The thing that I liked most about this novel is the fact that good triumphs over evil and justice, for the main part, is done. I did not like the fact that JT, in spite of all the good that he does, is unable to truly get his happy ending. Nevertheless, this factor actually makes this book that more realistic. The truth is that sometimes bad things happen to good people.

Another element in this book that I did not appreciate is the fact that some of the violent scenes are very ludicrous. For example, when JT encounters two gang members and shoots one of them, the one that is shot says, "I thought I had you", before falling to the ground. In my opinion, this dialogue was not necessary and almost turned this scene into a parody.

At times Fleischauer also creates scenes that are not easily believable. One such example is when JT and Annabelle encounter the outlaws' cabin in the woods. They enter and make themselves at home by cooking dinner and spending the night. Realistically, such an action will not be taken as there is a huge risk that the outlaws will return and kill them.

In spite of these weaknesses in the novel, it is worthy of mention here that many of the characters are women who are strong and fearless. Furthermore, a strong sisterhood exists among them. These women can prove to be very inspirational for the female readers.

This novel is certainly an exciting read and it ends on a note of hope. However, I will give it a rating of 3 out of 4 stars as there are a few grammatical errors. It is to be noted that these errors do not take away from the essence of the book. This book is also best suited for persons over the age of 18 as some of the scenes are very violent and graphic. Furthermore, persons of all religions can enjoy this book as no mention is made of religion in the storyline.

I urge all persons who enjoy reading action novels to read this one. Although it is a western novel, the storyline has many other elements that will be pleasing to persons who may not even like westerns. Personally, I am not a lover of westerns but I enjoyed this one in its entirety.
