[Following is a volunteer review of "Zara Hanson & The Mystery of the Painted Symbol" by J.L. Haynes.]
Zara Hanson and The Mystery of The Painted Symbol by J. L. Haynes is a science fiction book on alien creatures, mysteries and adventure. Zara Hanson works in a private organization that looks into mysterious happenings. She is called upon a new important mission where time is of the essence. She has to link up with another supernatural agent, Artificial Nano Synthetic Electrochemical Biological Entity(Ansebe), who will guide her through her mission.
The Elb, Gods who control certain aspects, have found reason to eliminate Terra, planet Earth. The Elb are highly evolved beings who work mysteriously. They find it hard to reason with the Eyt in order to come up with a solution for the Terrans who have evolved faster in technology than spirituality. The Eyt is an alien empire that have been the protectors of Terra. They have existed millions of years. The Eyt guided by the Ternions search for new species and have it upon themselves the task of protecting it. Man is one of the species. Ansebe helps Zara on this crucial mission. He explains to Zara the wonders and mysteries of the universe and even to the extent of experiencing some of them. She is introduced to new environments, adventure, life threatening tasks and many more.
Together with Fez-Pyan, Ansebe's brother, they carry out their missions. They discover new things that even they did not know, learn and fight for survival. Zara discovers her potentials and abilities unknown to her. Their mission takes on unexpected twists and turns that make it fascinating. In the end the painted symbol becomes the Ultimate Salvation for all.
The book is full of fascinating characters. Zara, Ansebe, Fez-Pyan and the Golden Ascetic are the main characters. Ansebe is gifted with the shamanic mind granting foresight and critical thinking. Fez-Pyan, the serpent that shines, has incredible speed, fast reflexes and manoeuvrability. He has the poison finger teachings and wield an ass bone with mighty powers. Zara holds the Urumi, an ancient weapon which makes the wielder invincible. The Golden Ascetic is a better version of Fez-Pyan. There are different races such as the Lyrians, cat-like creatures; the Elementians who are peaceful but when introduced to music they turn into dangerous weapons; and many more.
The plot of the story is easily understood. The author was able to describe characters and places vividly. The author was also able to weave spirituality and alienation well enough. The author showed a great deal of creativity and imagination. Themes of love, hope, war, betrayal and many more are present in the book.
I liked the whole book since nothing in particular interested me but the whole book. Besides, what I liked least about the book is the lack of informing the reader who was talking in some conversations using mind link. Furthermore, the book is professionally edited. Therefore, I give the book a perfect rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The book did not have profanities or erotic content. Finally I would recommend the book for fantasy lovers.
