"Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." – Henry David Thoreau

Do you have any interest that you enjoy doing with your friends? If so, you can read Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings. This novel tells the story about five women from different walks of life that come together and form a sisterhood through their common love for fly fishing.

The book is divided into chapters which were told in each of the main character’s perspective. Each chapter reveals the struggles that these women are experiencing. The first part of the book gives a detailed background about the main characters of the story. Also, a thorough introduction about the sport of fly fishing is included. I like how the author describes the nature in the story. It is like having the firsthand experience of going to the mountains and watching the water from the rivers flowing. At first, I really do not have idea about fly fishing. What goes in my mind is that this is just a regular fishing. But as I am reading the chapters, I have this feeling of interest and excitement about this sport.

Out of the five ladies, I think the character that I can relate to is with Sophie and Melody. Sophie who seems to be a successful woman but a part of her is too broken that she put a barrier to her heart. Melody on the other part acts as though and secluded person but behind this persona is a girl waiting to be recognized for her talent and to break free from expectations.

What I love in this book is that it brings out mixed emotions while I am reading it. The book tackles real life situations that each woman nowadays may be experiencing in her personal life. I also enjoy the way the author narrates the story on how these women came to know each other and be involved with fly-fishing. The flow of the story starts to be more exciting in the moment the character of Melody has shown up. There is just a loophole in the event where Melody stayed with them overnight even though she just meets them for the first time. My point is that Melody is a stranger. The way the story was concluded was totally unexpected and caught me by surprise. I think it was a little bit unsatisfying because it leaves me wandering what happens to characters after what happened at the latter part of the book. I think it would be noteworthy to follow these characters in a second book.

I rate this novel 3 out of 4 stars. There was a lot of information with regards to fly fishing. I have this tendency to check the internet for me to understand some parts where fly fishing is being mentioned. Nevertheless, I want to acknowledge the effort of the author to educate people with regards to fly fishing. I would not recommend it for young readers as it has many instances of inappropriate language. The book was not edited properly as there are some grammatical and typo errors. I love to recommend this novel to those who enjoy stories about friendship, fierce women, and nature. Anyone who is also interested in fly fishing will surely be delighted to read this book.
