The book, We are Voulhire: A new arrival under Great Skies is set in a place called Voulhire. This place is made up of a number of prosperous cities. Each city has its own attributes and form of trade which sets it apart from the rest.

After suffering all his life in the Land of the Princes, Galen sets off to a city in Voulhire called Magnum Caelum. His dying uncle had employed someone to track him down so he could inherit and take over the blacksmith business. This move gives him hope and a new lease on life he had not anticipated. Unfortunately the uncle dies before Galen could meet him. Once in Magnum Caelum, the young man befriends Rowan, the man who is also the executor of his uncle's estate.

As Galen tries to settle in and learn his uncle's trade, Rowan assists him and together they set off on an adventure to find 'white iron' Galen is really seeing the world for the first time and the reader is also taken on this journey of wonder and discovery as the young man tries to find his place in the world and also tries to make sense of all the things happening around him.

There is some magic at play in many aspects of everyday life in Voulhire, although there seems to be a certain type of magic that is barred and feared amongst citizens. This is the magic of the infamous Lord Meldorath. The book explores the possibility of a link between the physical world and a magical world they call Caromentis.

The author Matthew Tysz explores the relationship between the king, his subjects and his rivals. The king is conflicted, but has to manufacture a lie in order to protect his people.

This book opens up the imagination as it casts Voulhire as this magical place where anything is possible. There are many twists and turns and one can never guess what the next chapter will bring. The book ends and leaves the plot wide open, one can only imagine the many ways that this story can go. It leaves the reader very excited about the next book in the series.I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is well edited and I could not fault it in any way.

This is a must read for anyone who enjoys fantasy stories, and it also appeals to those who enjoy a good mystery. Lord Meldorath is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat as there is no telling whst his intentions are and what plans he has for Voulhire. The author did a great job of laying out this book and as the first in its series, the suspense leaves the reader ready to explore more of Voulhire and its people.
