[Following is a volunteer review of "Project Tau" by Jude Austin.]
Project Tau by Jude Austin is a futuristic science fiction novel which explores the world of cloning and the changes in society. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars due to the high quality story with no punctuation errors noticed. This text contains profane language beginning on page 6 and continuing throughout the novel. The language is appropriate to context in varying situations.
This book features scenes of torture and violence used against the clones and explores varying characters development through this time. It takes place over two years and demonstrates the changes that the characters go through when living through such traumatic incidents. Tau and Kata develop over time with influences from Mason, Renfield, Dennison, Chatton and more. The point of view frequently changes throughout the story allowing you to determine the story from many angles.
Often in this story there are large time jumps featured where the characters have drastically changed, at least outwardly if nothing else. These time jumps would be a factor in not giving it 4 stars because many of these incidents that were skipped could have played a larger factor in the character development for the reader. Most development in the story does continue to make sense and provide an intriguing story.
This book is the first in a series and leaves the reader eagerly anticipating the next novel. The characters continue through a wild and exciting journey which culminates in a beautiful explosion during the first novel, yet the curiosity prevails as to where their journey will continue to in the next novel. Tau and Kata have experienced a whole world inside of a genetic lab, what more could await them?
Although Jude Austin has written a science fiction novel which does not carry any space fights or glowing swords, it a truly fascinating piece of work which demonstrates characters with great depth and a competent plot. The possibilities which await in the future of this series are immense and a whole world could be created from this book. Project Tau is only the beginning and this novel is enriched with possibilities.
